History of the W247

The W247 generation launched in 2020 as a complete redesign of Mercedes-Benz's entry-level SUV offering.

Mercedes significantly enlarged the GLA for the second generation, increasing wheelbase and overall dimensions to provide more interior space and a more mature presence. The new design direction emphasized a higher beltline and more pronounced shoulder lines, creating a more robust and sophisticated appearance than the original W156.

The W247 incorporates Mercedes' MBUX infotainment system and modern connectivity features as standard, positioning it as a technology-forward compact SUV. Multiple engine options including the new M260 turbocharged unit and plug-in hybrid powertrains expand its appeal across different markets and buyer preferences.

AMG performance variants, particularly the GLA45 S with over 400 horsepower, demonstrated Mercedes' commitment to performance across all segments. The W247 also introduced updated safety technologies and driver assistance systems reflecting current automotive industry standards.
